Dunkin' Donuts: Crunkin' Cronuts

Dunkin' Donuts is and always will be the original donut for me. Let's see how they fare with their own version of those crafty cronuts that seem to be poppin' up errywhere!

Crunkin'!
Dunkin' Donuts have a nice cafe setup along Marcos Highway and it's complete with everything the franchise offers. Donuts, Munchkins, Croissandwiches (are they called that? they should be), Bunwiches (I love these! but no review here, sorry), other sandwiches, and recently, "Donut Croissants". Okay, let's just act like normal people and call them Cronuts, too.

Apple Cinnamon Donut Croissant, P75.00
Not a bad price! This is the cheapest cronut out there that I know of. I actually liked the taste of this one. The sweetness was very subtle and it wasn't coated with sugar at all. Nice touch. Lots of peanuts on top. Something I also appreciate. The thin spread of apple jam(?) barely added to taste, but in this case, less is more, so you can really get to taste that which is special about the cronut: the texture. It is, after all, a regular donut with the texture of a croissant. The texture was okay, but could have been better. The bread didn't have a very croissant-ish feel to it. It was definitely fluffy bread, but it wasn't flaky bread. It wasn't exactly croissant bread. It was just close to it.

Dunkin' Donuts vs. Wildflour
We've tried the country's first cronuts in Wildflour, and I'd have to say that theirs is still better. Though too sweet at times, they really captured the great croissant texture. Theirs is P120 though, and actually, I think they raised the price to P150, so on a per-peso comparison, Dunkin's cronuts are very worth it for a close cronut experience.

Boston Kreme Donut (half of it), P20.00
I never get this flavor. It's Alvie's favourite. It was alright, just not my thing very much. Aside from this, the best flavors they have are (based on my preference, of course): Choco Butternut and Original Bavarian. None of those fake bavarians!

Mocha Latte, P65.00
Hazelnut Iced Coffee, P60.00
Dunkin' Donuts has grown to be a trusted place for coffee on the go, for having good coffee that doesn't feel like highway robbery. Haha. The Mocha Latte was delicious, creamy, and chocolatey. The Hazelnut Iced Coffee was alright, too.

Original Bavarian Munchkins, P5.00 per piece
Chocolate Bavarian Munchkins, P5.00 per piece
Munchkins, or donut holes, or as one could call them, negative donuts, are always great to take home. Choco Butternut was out of stock! A travesty! Chocolate Glazed too! Alas, we'll have to do with only bavarians. Bavarian was good as usual, and the chocolate bavarian had chocolate dough and the same white cream. It's very close to the original, with a slight bitterweet chocolate taste. Not bad, but I'd stick to the original. For the record, by the way, this was for take-out, so don't judge me. Haha.

Alvie was so busy buying donuts, she didn't even notice Derek Ramsey trying to give her one. :)

Verdict:
Apple Cinnamon Donut Croissant: Good
Boston Kreme Donut: Good
Mocha Latte: Good
Hazelnut Iced Coffee: Okay
Bavarian Munchkin: Good
Chocolate Bavarian Munchkin: Okay

It's nice to see that the original king of donuts is still alive and kicking. I'm definitely coming back for a bunwich!
