Saint's Alp: Taiwanese Chicken Goodness

This is one little place we enjoy visiting for a good snack every once in a while. Saint's Alp, or as I like to stubbornly call it, St. Alp's!

Not an attention-grabbing store but definitely worth a visit.

Saint's Alp is a Taiwanese-style tea house that did not come from Taiwan, but from Hong Kong. The name apparently comes from a Taiwanese folktale of a monk who left his footprint on a rock (hence the foot logo), and not a bad-ass saint named Alp (that would have been cooler!).

Whenever we are here, we immediately turn to our favourite chicken snack.

Large Chicken Breast, P150.00

Okay this isn't the most creative name on the planet, but the dish totally makes up for its name when you taste its flavorful, peppery goodness. We actually had this dish sometime last year, the first time we visited this place. It was just a hundred pesos then and superbly worth it. I decided then and there that it would be my default lunch at work cause it was cheap, healthy-ish(?) and delicious! Unfortunately, as Murphy's law would have it, the following week the price rose a whopping 50 percent to its current price. Still worth it, but I want it for a hundred! Dearest St. Alp, can't you please make it so?

Honey-Glazed Coffee Spareribs, P195.00

We ordered this as a part of an 11am-2pm value meal that gives you fifty pesos off when you get this with
one of their frothy teas. We didn't really like this one very much. The best part about it is it gave us rice to enjoy with the chicken breast! I didn't taste any coffee (however, Alvie tasted some bitterness) and the meat's portion was small, especially since there was fat and bone on it too. Not inedible, but not enjoyable.

Dragon (Oolong) Milk Tea, Regular, P115.00

Definitely the coolest-sounding milk tea on the menu, I'd say I enjoyed this one. It's slightly more expensive than the other milk tea offerings in the area, but it's good and has a different quality to it. The milk tea here is a lot creamier than the others, and that's not necessarily better, but it is a refreshing change.

Verdict:
Large Chicken Breast: Great taste, lame name
Honey-Glazed Coffee Spareribs: Great name, lame taste
Dragon (Oolong) Milk Tea: Good

They actually have lots of other interesting menu items we have not gotten to try. Whether we try them or not, we will always, always order the chicken breast! Mr. St. Alp, sir, if you put it back to its original price, I swear to you, I'll have it thrice a week! :)

P.S. I tried a similar type of chicken recently at Banchetto called ChickenZilla and I really liked it! It was cheaper and had lower quality but had amazing options. We might head back and blog about it in the future.
