The Killers: Battle Born Tour

The Killers have generously been giving a soundtrack to my life since college days, when I first saw Somebody Told Me on Channel V and immediately enjoyed the cool, catchy track. I then gave the album a listen and holy hell, Mr. Brightside was good! I played the hell out of the song before the cool Eric Roberts video even came out. I became a fan. The first album, Hot Fuss, was totally riddled with amazing catchy songs like All These Things That...

Sugar Bites: Mooncakes

Mooncakes to send me over the moon. I don't know much about the Chinese pastry called the Mooncake, other than the fact that I enjoy it. I first learned about the Mooncake during college. A bit late in my life, I guess. Haha. One of the first things I noticed when trying it the first time was that it's a lot like Hopia, but richer and what I loved about it is sometimes, there's a lovely salted egg yolk (or two!) inside. Delicious! I then found...

Movie Review: This Is The End

Image from here. Nothing ruins a party like the end of the world. Ever since I saw the trailer, I have been looking forward to watching this movie. Friends Seth Rogen, Jay Bruchel (the Sorcerer's Apprentice guy), Jonah Hill, Craig Robinson (The Office), and Danny McBride are all at James Franco's house partying with other celebrities when the end of the world begins. It's crazy and it's hilarious. One of the best things about this movie is that...

Movie Review: Insidious: Chapter 2

Image from here. It will take what you love most. Okay. Another horror movie. Why do I keep getting dragged into these things? This film picks up from where the last movie ends. Without giving the ending to the first movie away, let's just say it isn't rainbows and butterflies. The family survived the ordeal but that only means more opportunities to be haunted. Is there something wrong with Daddy? Image from here. This film isn't nearly...

Kebabers: Cheese Kebabs

Why, yes, good sir. I am cravin' for kebabs. With places in the Fort like Kasbah and The Kebab Factory ( now closed :( ), it is definitely a refreshing change to see a seemingly more affordable restaurant for Mediterranean food. Fun place! I was happy to see the lively interior. This was definitely worth the walk! I couldn't wait to eat. Peppered Steak (Double Up!, Iced Tea included not in picture), P145.00 We started off simple, and this...

TV Review: Modern Family Season 4

Image from here. Over the past years, there haven't been a lot of good comedy series. My Name is Earl was cancelled, Steve Carrell left The Office, and How I Met Your Mother has lost its thunder. I was very amused with the show, Modern Family, from the beginning. It's a mockumentary like The Office is, only focusing more on personal issues and family. The charm is in the characters. Each of the main characters in the story is interesting in their...

GoNuts Donuts' Cookie Butter Donut and Mary Grace's Cheesebread

A beautiful sight when you're bored in the hospital room. About a month ago, we were stuck in my former 'home-away-from-home', Makati Medical Center, because my dad got confined for a couple of days. Glad it was nothing serious! Family and friends were visiting, and what do I blog about then? The food they brought! Haha. I hope they don't mind! Cookie Butter Donut I know that Cookie Butter is soo three months ago. These days are all about...

Amici: Pizza Fest

Amici, particularly the branch near Don Bosco will always hold a special place in our hearts. Not just because they have great food, but because it is where our Savvy about Nothing journey began. For our return visit, we happened upon Amici during its Pizza Fest promo. Buy 1 Take 1 Pizza? Awesome! Al Quattro Formaggi, P364.00 A cheese-lovers delight. A flavorful combination of Mozzarella, ricotta, parmesan and blue cheese. The pizza was alright,...

McDonald's: Chocolate Syrup Hotcakes

Heavy breakfast! Now that Alvie and I are at different work shifts, we try to make up for the difference in time by going out for quick meals every now and then. We do tend to rely on restaurants that are nearby, so naturally, McDonald's is one of them, being nearby to everywhere. I was interested to see that they now had new syrup choices for pancakes, because I love pancakes. When I was a kid, I used to stack them up as high as I saw them in...

Mexicali: My Favourite Enchilada

I love Mexican food. How did I come to love Mexican food? Well, Tia Maria had a hand in it, but it was mostly just Mexicali. I have long deemed them to be the king of Mexican food. With new successful ones popping up like Orale! and Ristras, how does Mexicali hold up? I ate here with my family recently when we availed a voucher for many burritos and I started with my absolute favourite dish here: the Cheese Enchilada. Cheese Enchilada, P244.00 Soft...

Umami Hambaagu House: Okonomiyaki Baagu

A while back, we were planning to drop by Sunrise Buckets for some exciting wings but it was too late and we we were welcomed by nothing but a CLOSED sign. Another sign in the vicinity welcomed us with open arms though. Well, we are definitely NOT boring! ...right? So, Umami Hambaagu House is, you guessed it, a Japanese restaurant focused on burgers (or baagus?). I'm more of a sushi guy but hmm.. I can get behind that! We were looking for a quick...

Chibby and The Eye That Popped Out

Recuperating with the cone of shame. One night when Alvie and I got to her house, and as it usually goes, her tiny tiny tiny dog, Chibby came running to greet us, and it didn't seem like a night unlike any other. Upon getting in, we were told that something happened to Chibby's eye: it had popped out of the socket. What?? As crazy as it sounded, I rushed toward the little dog and checked. Yep, it's out, alright. Where one of here eyes should...
